Ring No. 1 in a series of rings formed by breakage and repair. The scars are allowed to show – handmade, broken and repaired with character. The imperfection of life, captured in silver.

The ring was first forged whole. Then I broke it – on purpose – and repaired it again, without hiding where it broke. Over the fracture I have wrapped a thin silver wire, like a bandage.

The surface is hammered by hand so that every mark and scratch is visible. The idea is the same as in the Japanese kintsugi tradition: What has broken and been repaired is not worse than what is whole – it carries a story.
