The burnt

We have all faced adversity and burned ourselves – but we keep going. Two burnt ends have been brought together into a ring, which is held together by a knot.

I have burned the two ends of the ring with the flame until the silver melted and contracted. Instead of soldering them together into a smooth joint, I have let them meet as they are and tied them together with a knot of silver wire.

The surface is darkened and bears the traces of fire and work. The ring is about being burned and still holding together – that what has been damaged can still bear.

The ring belongs to the series Reclaimed: rings shaped by crime and repair, where the imperfect is allowed to take place.
